Saturday morning at Formby Golf Club brought with it bright and breezy conditions for the second day’s play in the Arnold Palmer Cup.

Europe, having dominated yesterday’s morning foursomes lead by 2 points. And it could have been more had the United States not responded so emphatically in the afternoon fourballs.

The visitors determined to maintain that momentum in the Saturday Singles.

Out in match one for Europe, one of only two men to earn maximum points yesterday, Antoine Rozner of France. And he made light work of his opponent Will Gordon. Shaking hands as early as the 14th hole. A 5 and 4 win.

His partner of yesterday, Robin Sciot-Siegrist, also maintained his 100% record. Victory today coming at the expense of Derek Bard, 2 and 1.

Europe were in the ascendency. Robin Petersson demolishing Doug Ghim 6 and 5...

The one way traffic continued, Sam Horsfield closing 2 up against Will Zalatoris.

While Adrian Meronk also began well against Alistair Docherty. This his tee shot on 6. But the American refused to lie down. That match would end all square.

Nahum Mendoza III beat Matthias Schwab 3 and 2 to finally put some red on the leaderboard.

And soon after Rico Hoey saw off Lars Van Meijel of the Netherlands 2 and 1. The American scrambling to great effect all day.

Zach Wright managed to secure a half against Matthias Eggenberger in match 9... much to the delight of his team-mates.

But the day ultimately belonged to Europe. Stuart Grehan too strong for Charlie Danielson. A 2 and 1 victory to round out a convincing display for the hosts.

The lead now 13 – 7, and America with it all to do tomorrow. They will require 8 points from the second and final series of singles to retain the Arnold Palmer Cup. Europe meanwhile will need just 2 and a half more points to secure the trophy here at Formby Golf Club.
