EUGENE, Ore. – Aaron Wise of Oregon claimed the Division I Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award for earning medalist honors at the NCAA Championships.
Wise opened the championship with even par 70 and sat tied for 16th. He moved up two spots after firing another 70 in round two. In the third round Wise shot the best round of the tournament, a 6-under 64 that put him in the individual lead by two strokes. During the final round of stroke play, Wise at one point moved to 8-under and opened a four shot lead. After a double bogey at No. 12 and hitting in the water at No. 16 his lead evaporated. A birdie at No. 17 moved Wise back to 5-under and secured medalist honors.
The win was Wise’s third of the season.
